Metal if you haven't listened to metal in the last 10 years you've really missed out. Bands have been aggressively pushing all creative boundaries. The variety and quality is staggering, and it's coming from all over the world. It's now impossible to talk 'metal' without first defining what type of metal your talking about.
Standouts Strapping young lad, Mastodon, Lamb of god, converge, dillinger escape plan, Dimmu Borgir, Mars Volta, DragonForce etc. etc. etc.

punk Started the decade off very well, but is having a dry spell now that post-punk and emo have run out of ideas
Standouts Thursday, At the drive in, My Chemical romance, Fugazi

No offence, but if you think those "metal" bands were they best of the decade/released the best material, you need to dig deeper.

As for the "Punk" none of those bands should be considered punk..seriously MCR considered punk? lol.

Also the comment about "Post-Punk" and "emo" Most people dont even know what real "Post-Punk" and "emo" music is.
