Okay, I do agree that you can't punish the whole remaining family because one stupid @sshole stole a car and led the RCMP on a high speed chase into oncoming traffic.
But, the victim's family is going to be punished for the rest of their lives- their family member is dead. I do think that the family deserves to know who is responsible for their loss...to at least give them some measure of closure.
I know that if my brother, for example, had done something like this, I wouldn't want my name tarnished by his actions- I didn't lead police on a high speed chase and end up killing someone, why should I be punished as well? I would, however, be all over the news, publicly distancing myself from HIS choices, and HIS actions- that is how you don't end up being painted with the same brush as the perpetrator.
By wanting their name kept secret, it's almost like the family is wallowing in "Oh, my poor misunderstood son...if only the police hadn't FORCED him to run...." It makes them seem like THEIR family member is the victim, which isn't true. I dunno.
