Back when I was in school I worked at the local 7-11. They had a silent alarm button that was right under the register. Seems like a good idea except management didn't bother telling any of the employees it was there. Flash forward a couple of weeks to when I find this doorbell under the till. I pressed it a couple of time and heard nothing. I figured it was just stupid 7-11 having more crap that didn't work. Since no one important was in the store and I didn't care about the job I called my girlfriend.

So, to make a boring story quick. The police got a silent alarm and a busy signal when they tried to call the store. I was reprimanded and the employees learned about the silent alarm system. Came as a bit of a surprise to the girlfriend when I told her "I wonder what's up, there's like a dozen squad calls pulling into the parking lot".
