Seal pelts are graded based on their condition (A,B, C, D..). Clubbing was done to protect the pelt from damage thus making it worth more. Shooting a seal damages the pelt too much. A big bullet hole in the pelt drops the value of it significantly.

Seal meat is really greasy but is quite tasty. Its fairly rich.

Seal fur is very warm and really protects against extreme cold. I wear seal skin mitts all the time. My fiance made them for me (she is Inuit).

Contrary to what a lot of people think, there are not a lot of seals in the North, not like there are in the waters around Newfoundland. I actually bought 4 pelts in NL and brought them back to the North so that I could get some mitts made.
