Having just spent a bunch of time at the hospital in the last while (see the "I hate Cancer" thread for why), I can say that it is virtually impossible to be more than 10 feet away from a hand sanitizing station.
Over a week at the hospital, I sanitized my hands so often that I think there was no flesh left on my hands - just the bones.
But seriously, I stopped using the stuff after the first few days, because my hands couldn't take it anymore.
Having been in the hospital regularly over that week, plus I know I've been around other people who almost certainly have had the virus in the time when they likely would have been contagious, I'm pretty sure the virus has gone through me already. Didn't even notice anything, maybe a runny nose for a day or two.
A sore arm for a day would have been far more annoying than getting the flu.
