I hope this is not too far offtopic, but I came across these articles a while back that I thought were interesting:

Only Two of the Top 30 Grossing Films of This Decade Are Original

Only Eight of This Decade’s Best Picture Nominees Are Original

Since we're talking about the TIFF, many of these films aren't included in such a list because their not independent, these are mainstream films, but intersting none the less.
