I'm looking at doing a trip in roughly October/November next year and I'm not sure if I should be trying to book as early as possible or if prices will likely improve in the coming months. Right now I'm seeing roughly $2000 on British Airways or KLM (and $10,000 on Lufthansa for economy class).

I would say a decent price is around $1300-$1450 USD. I think it's probably too early for decent prices 1 year ahead. There are flights showing right now for $1350 during Jan/Feb/Mar.
As far as I know, peak season for Nairobi is Jan/Feb and June-September. October-December is one of the wet seasons, so I wouldn't expect prices to be at a premium.
Don't forget about the Emirates airline as well.
