I just had my wisdom teeth taken out 11 days ago. I was put under so obviously the process was painless. The aftermath was also pretty much painless. Just some soreness on the first day and that's it. Zero swelling. Zero pain. Just very annoying not to be able to eat anything that tastes good for a few days after the surgery.

As for the root canal, I've never had one, though I should have. I got an elbow in the teeth playing basketball a few years back and the tooth started dying. I didn't go to the dentist for almost two years (I wasn't avoiding the dentist, I went months after the injury but the darkening wasn't noticeable then) and then went a couple months ago and the dentist said I was very lucky because the tooth had undergone the process of a root canal by itself. So I get to avoid the root canal and the only problem is I have one incisor which is slightly darkened, but only noticeable if you look really closely. I can deal with that.
