This is kind of off topic, but did you ever get a second opinion? My brother after moving out west had to get new glasses, rather than just buying them and giving his old prescription, when my mother was out to visit him she made him get his eyes checked first.
All seems normal, until the doctor sat the two of them down and said "did you know you have __________ wrong with your eye" (what I don't remember). He said it effects depth perception. New prescription, new glasses, and all of a sudden my brother could see depth. It wasn't that bad, only for distances, but it was such a gradual change he never noticed until it was corrected.
Not saying you've got the same thing, but apparently they can help that in some forms.
