He IS an entertainer but he knows, because of the stats above, that he's actually more than that for a good swack of the population that seems to take him seriously . . . . . yet the entertainer label is an easy fallback position if someone calls him on it.
Great gig if you can get it. I don't really care one way or the other. It's just an odd reaction to the guy.

Whereas Fox News does much the same and tries to pass off their garbage as serious news and don't care if someone calls them on it. It's just wash and repeat. They should change their name to Fox News Entertainment much like the WWE.
