You can just use tap water with a tiny bit of dish soap, and use a credit card to squeegie out the excess. Just make sure the screen is clean. Put the solution in saucer, dip the film in it, shake it so it is just barely damp on the back, and apply it. You can slide it around until it is perfectly in position, then squeegie it with a credit card in one firm fast swoop. You can even take it off and reposition it using this technique. I used to deal with 3M film and tinting on cars at a high end shop, and at that time we just used dish soap and water.
