What ever happened to that story anyway? His wife hears a gunshot, they find damage up high on his house and a bullet that didn't penetrate wood lying on the ground.
Sounded to me like it was a hunters bullet fired 3 miles away and hit the house on the way down.
His wife must have good ears!
