Icon40 No more "Ruff" times in Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh Penguins have announced today the firing of their only coach in franchise history Lindy Ruff. Ruff compiled a record of 142 wins, 108 losses, 25 ties, and 9 overtime losses. That is a solid record however the key factor in his dismissal was his inability to get the most out of the playoffs. Ruff was given top notch talent but was not able to guide the Pens to home ice advantage in round one in any of his past seasons. Combine the lack luster regular seasons with a 9-8 start this year and it was enough to let him go in cup hungry Pittsburgh.

Quote:
We feel that in order to get to the next level and bring home a cup we need to have a much more consistent regular season. Our goal is home ice advantage and we feel that even though it is just a mere 17 games into the schedule that this team is too good to be on the bubble.

The Pens have brought in John Anderson on a 1 year deal in an attempt to right the ship. Anderson brings a wealth of experience at every level and after leading his AHL squad to the championships a couple seasons ago the Pens hope he can bring the best out of this team.

Quote:
We are an offensive team and we felt John was the best offensive coach available and that he will work hard to get the most out of all players. We feel that he has the mentality to lead this squad to home ice advantage and deep into the playoffs, and hopefully to the cup.
