If it was for health reasons, then a parent could do what my dad did. We'd have to let him go through our stuff looking for "dangerous" items like candy apples. Funny how half our stuff, including ALL of the ketchup chips turned out to be "suspicious". And it was real nice of him to sacrifice his own safety by eating the "suspicious" items.  Just because they collect all this candy doesn't mean they have to eat it all and it can't be rationed over the year.
I think it is the growing distrust of other people.... Those kids at the mall still had pretty decent hauls of candy by the time they were done. |
It's a real shame that kids go to the mall for trick-or-treating. That isn't Halloween. Halloween is kids getting dressed up and going door-to-door.
This Halloween wasn't even that cold, I went out when it was -25 and snowing. I also find it pathetic when I see a group of 15+ year old kids going out, without costumes, asking for candy. If a 16 year old is going out with his 2 young brothers, fine, but don't be a d-bag.
