Originally, I thought the way this vaccination was being managed was pure buffoonery. But recently I've had a revelation that there is actually some sort of incredible nefarious genius behind it all. Or at least, someone who is an ardent student of Nintendo marketing practices.
This revelation came to me after one of my coworkers, who had been railing against the H1N1 vaccine for months, suddenly went out one evening and got his whole family vaccinated. (Using the word "suddenly" might give the wrong impression... he didn't just get the vaccination, he stood in line for 3 hours and got vaccinated.) Before, he was totally one of those guys who was going on about "The vaccine is untested, rushed to market, long range medical side effects, yada yada." Then his talk turned this week to "they're running out of vaccine, if you don't go now, you won't be able to get the shot, everyone is trying to get it, yada yada yada." And that night he got vaccinated.
Like I said, it reminds me a lot of the way the Wii was sold. It's the Cabbage Patch doll of vaccines. It'll be interesting to see if the vaccination rate here ends up being higher than in other provinces where thing were handled in a more orderly fashion.
