The last time I worked for someone that wasn't me or my family, I was allowed to use my sick days for personal reasons. With discretion, of course. But basically, if the need arose where I really had to have a weekday off for personal stuff, I'd just ask my boss if I could "call in sick" the next day. He was cool.
