Perhaps it is the thanks button that does it. Which is too bad, because I like the idea of it and its easier to use that then get a string of "good post" replies... easier to organize a good post with who likes it, versus scrambling 30 replies to say "good post"

But I think the problem coming from it is, people are using it more for just choosing witty and funny posts (not always that funny, actually... although I do abuse that too) and most of the best posts that are backed up well are not thanked. I guess there's really no fix for that.
You took the works right out of my mouth, except for the thanks button which I still think is a great idea. After the RTT was shut down, you can sense the chat/one liners from that thread have made their way to the other threads. It was and still is common to see some of the same posters start a mini-conversation in a thread which eventually throws it off-topic. I think if some posters leave the personal witty remarks with people they know (or seem to know) in PM's and let the threads exist for on-topic discussion, then the "quality" of posts will eventually improve.

It's frankly a habit some will have to break, including myself now and then. I realize that the witty remarks and inside jokes have seemed to make CP a tighter community, but for some it makes it appear to be segregated a bit too. It's the segregation that brings us to this thread.
