This was for a buddy that's currently unemployed and we really had to get creative to stick to his budget. Dude desperately needed a new rig to apply / search for jobs. Admittedly, it was closer to $300 and did involve using a few old things from has last computer.
Asus M2A74 w/ Dual DDR, 5.1 Audio, Radeon 2100, Gigabit - $69. Onboard video yes, but about 2x as good as the usual Intel X45 onboard solution, good enough for his wife to play Sims3.
Athlon X2 240 Dual Core 2.8 Ghz - $69
2GB RAM - Something on Rebate that was only $25 AR. Can get more later as budget allows.
Seagate 500GB - $56
Case / PSU - used his old Seanix case with 350W PS. Ugly, beige, and zero USB slots, but it'll do.
DVD burner - some old POS from the Seanix. Ain't pretty, but it'll do.
OS - Used Vista Home from Kijiji (legit with serial) $50.
A few bux for GST, plus a few bucks for a couple of price matches as I recall. Got lucky admittedly with the used Vista from someone upgrading to W7, but hey, when trying to stretch your dollar, you've got to work for it!
