Battery pulls are good to help free up memory as was stated earlier. As you start to open emails and view attachments it all uses memory on your berry. I have realized a weekly battery pulls helps your phone to run smooth. I have even heard some people say pulling the battery and keeping it out for 5 mins helps.

Also as a rule of thumb, if you berry ever seems to really be acting weird or super slow, just pull the battery.

For apps that I love, google maps is good, weathereye is good for weather, shazam, texts from last night (good laugh, kinda like FML but with texts and is free). If you are with bell or telus and CDMA can't send texts over 140 characters you can get an app called beyond 160 (about $7) but it allows you to type messages as long as you want and will split them up as multiple texts. This is handy if you tend to have longer texts.
