Most people don't purchase the $2000 model. It's the top of the line iMac, and geared toward the upper echelon of computing consumers who are not quite pro users yet.
Considering that 90% of people who need an entry level computer such as an iMac need it for 3 things (email, personal media and internet browsing), I don't think they would notice the difference in hardware performance.
For an entry level iMac, you're getting a great computer, a beautiful monitor, and an-all-in one solution that comes with everything.
