As far as daytime running lights....c'mon. Those can be installed on any vehicle, and if that's a law in Canada (which it is, for any 1990 or later model year vehicle) then equipping your car with it should be mandatory.
I'm not even talking about RHD specifically. What about cars from Europe? I wouldn't mind importing, say, a Renault Clio V6. While I can't afford it, it's foolish that I wouldn't have the choice if I did. Or what if someone moves here from Europe? While importing your car is not the logical choice, for an enthusiast, it's the only choice. For a car fanatic, it would be like telling someone that they can't take art from their house when they move here.

While I appreciate your point that Japanese and Euro safety standards should be pretty good, they are still made for the roads in those countries, not ours. Obviously RHD isn't as safe as LHD in Canada. I don't think I need to argue that one.
As for your V6 Clio, Europe is a place that isn't crawling with pickup trucks. Bumper heights are different, highway barricade standards are different, traffic light heights are different, sign heights, road compounds, all of it. There are just too many factors to blindly trust the safety standards of many countries besides the US.
