There have been some hilarious debates on various CFL forums regarding the "sell outs" this year in the CFL.
Apparently there are at least a few thousand seats left in the temp. seats at McMahon for tomorrow and Stamps fans and Rider fans have been bickering about the validity of the game being a sell out because Calgary has barely had one all year...sort of.
See, in Regina the temp seats are now permanent. (made our total attendance go from about 29k to 30.5k) but we lost our sellout streak because even though they are temp seats, we are keeping them the whole season (and maybe longer).
Here in Calgary there has only been 1 or 2 true sell outs this year. (Labour Day didn't even really sell out if you count temp seats.)
However, the CFL DOESN'T count temp. seats in the sell out count so technically the Stamps have been OVER capacity in the last few games and will be tomorrow again.
Then of course you add in the Riders-Esks game from Commonwealth that supposedly had 63k fans, despite the fact they give away about 15k seats (and of course a boost from 10k Rider fans). Even then there wasn't close to 63k that night because half the people that got free tix didn't go.
Needless to say as much as I love the CFL, I think the whole argument is total BS. Rider fans trying to say they caused the biggest crowd ever in Edm (only half true), Stamps fans and others saying the supposedly "great" Rider fans let their sellout streak die, and Rider fans and others saying Calgary is just padding their numbers because they have been far from a sell out pretty much all year but with the temp seats not being counted in the total, but being counted in attendance, has produced "fake" sell outs.
And people say no one cares about the CFL...
