Everyone at work knows how big of a hockey fan I am. I don't hide it, and get really excited about it. Draft day I was telling people who got what, even though some people didn't care, or not nearly as much as I did. During the playoffs I'd listen to games during phone calls and mute a person if the Flames scored, freak out, take them off mute, and tell them about it too.... But that was only for the 5 or 6 games I didn't manage to get off work for... Basically, everyone knows I'm a fan, I follow the sport, and I know my shinguard.

Anyways, there's this one chick who constantly irritates me with her useless banter. She knows I'm a fan, and will ask me stupid questions, or make stupid comments. Tonight, she sent me an email asking me how many sleeps until hockey. (Thanks to the CalgaryPuck clock, I was able to give her a smart-ass answer about what her definition of hockey was, and if she's waiting for the season, it's 58 sleeps, but if she's talking about preseason and training camp, it's only about a month.) She'll ask me questions sometimes, and I try to be patient with her, but frankly, she has no clue what she's talking about, nor does she comprehend when I try to tell her what icing is. She's the definition of bandwagoner.

Now, I have this effect on people, whereby if I'm excited, I can make them excited. My ex, who lives now in Edmonton, is a good example of this. Even his best friend couldn't get him to be a fan of hockey while they were living together in Edmonton, and they've been friends for 15 years. However, he can't wait to put his Flames jersey on this year, and go to Rectal place for the BoA. I've apparently given this particular girl the impression with my enthusiasm that I want to discuss hockey with anyone and everyone, even her. She's an idiot though! It's not just about hockey, but she also seems to think that's all I want to talk about besides work, which is the only other thing we have in common. When I'm forced into a conversation about work with her, I can't help but stare blankly and wonder how someone could get so far in life while being so stupid.

And the worst part is that she sits in a position whereby she looks right at me the whole time. So after she sends me this email about how many sleeps there are until hockey, she stares at me with a big smile on her face waiting for my response. I don't want to be rude so I respond, and she gets an even bigger grin that I would know such a thing. I also know there's 145 days until Christmas if you care to ask! I know she just wants a friend, but why the hell do I attract these people, and why can't I just call her a fataing idiot and get it over with?

Anyone else get trapped by people like this? I get it all the time from people who know I'm a POLI SCI major in school and have no clue about politics but want to 'discuss' it with me, and end up lecturing me on how things should be run and all politicians are corrupt...

Okay, you just described how you talk to everyone around your office aobut hockey, and now you're p*ssed because a girl you work with has show an interst in something that you enjoy?

If you are gonna get p*ssed about people who aren't as knowedgable about the game asking you questions that may seem stupid or obvious to you, then maybe you should stop telling people about hockey who in your own words "didn't even care". Sure she asks some questions that seem stupid, and the answer may seem obvious, but everything that is obvius now, wasn't always that way even for you, someone who "Know's their shinguard".

You've said that work is the only thing you have in common, so lighten up, this chick is just trying to be your friend by aksing about something you clearly enjoy talking about.
