If you are trying to get a sacrifice fly and just score the guy from 3rd I don't think it is that hard.

Trying to get a base hit is different than specifically just trying to make sure it gets to the outfield and not caring if it is caught or not.

I think that it depends on the pitcher as to the ground ball/fly ball outs. i.e different guys tend to have more of one than the other.
