Sentences are almost always concurrent.  There are certain offences where if convicted you are supposed to get a sentence consecutive to other sentences imposed for crimes arising from the same incident (e.g., some gun offences).  Otherwise, you only get a consecutive sentence if you are already serving prison time or are in jail because of a fine default.
