I love listening to people complain about the music of this day and age, and pretend that it wasn't marketed the same way in the old days. It's like they just watched "Josie and the Pu$$ycats" and are just coming to the realization that the music industry is corrupt.

For as long as I've been following music, and far before that, marketing is what sold music. Not talent. Fact is, the majority of people wouldn't know talent if it smacked them in the face. A nice hook, some excellent marketing and you've got a star. Seriously, there's no incredible talent present in the music of the Beatles. But they could market like no other.

To say Lady Gaga sucks is just wrong, just like it's wrong to say that Nickleback sucks. They are very good at what they do. Even if the music is devoid of any reasonable measure of talent, they have enough of the right stuff to be marketed so that your average listener will keep spinning those records.

To be honest, I hadn't heard of Lady Gaga before this thread. I actually thought this had something to do with that kids' show on Treehouse. Yo Gabba Gabba, I think it is. But then, I'm not a big fan of the radio.
