I thought this film treated the problems of homelessness with fine precision. Both the callousness that leads some people to excuse the homeless as simply lazy bums and the altruism that seeks to make everyone better are exposed as insufficient for dealing with homelessness. There was a lot wisdom in the film.

However, I thought the storytelling and direction was very uneven. For a movie that handle a controversial theme with a lot of subtlety, I thought it was a shame that story tended to loss steam at a lot of places. It's been a while since I watched it, but I remember the second act just dragging on and on.
