I was speaking in a general sense, not about this issue specifically.
With respect to the last election, though, opinion surveys showed that Canadians didn't want an election last Fall either, but supporters of the Conservatives didn't accuse Harper of "not listening to the will of the people" when he chose to ignore his own fixed election date law and dissolve parliament more than a year early.
It's just the nature of the beast, I guess. People who follow politics are no different than sports fans when it comes to homerism. They'll criticize another party for something and look the other way when the party they support does the same thing.
