We've been over this before.
If a party does something that is popular, their supporters will say they're "following the will of the people", and their opponents will say they "don't have a spine and are foolishly governing based on opinion polls."
If a party does something that is not popular, their supporters will say they're "showing true leadership in the face of public opposition", and their opponents will say they're "failing to listen to the will of their constituents".
