Go back to sleep then . . . . .

I was just pulling out onto the highway, a mile off a gravel road from my home, when the QR77 radio host said a plane had crashed into the WTC and they switched to a live ABC News feed.

My first inclination was to turn around - being only minutes from the house - but I had stuff to do that morning so duty called.

I was nearing my office in a rural town - heading east, the telephone poles alongside the two lane blacktop starting to be backlit against the morning glow - when another bulletin had a second WTC being hit. I phoned Mrs. Cowperson on cell and told her to get the tv on . . . . then pulled into my office a short while later.

Most of the major news websites were jammed and impossible to load - CNN, USA Today, etc. - but I eventually found a back door through CNN Financial News and saw the first images.

Within an hour workers were being told at this particular national firm they had the option of going home and, although I was independent of that decision, I called an appointment I was expecting and we agreed it would be inappropriate to continue as is. I headed home and the first tower had already collapsed before I got there with Mrs. Cowperson describing coverage of people leaping to their deaths rather than burning. I then saw the first live tv images and watched the second tower collapse.

A story on the one year anniversary at Calgarypuck remembers what the board was like that day.

Come to think of it, as the story notes, 9/11 spawned the birth of the Off-Topic Board at Calgarypuck.
