I suspect there is a salary cap (unless specifically disabled) and the game will give you a "max salary" for each pick based on how much cap space you have left so you can't totally screw yourself.

Try to be realistic about it (if you drafted a $10M guy last round then skimp for the next few rounds) and you'll be fine.
