Jeter will likely get some consideration but a guy like Jason Bartlett as a SS has put up pretty comparable numbers. Given the rest of the Rays lineup I'd argue Bartlett has been as valuable or more valuable to the Rays than Jeter to the Yankess. Although if you compare the Yankees man to man with the Red Sox, the one position where the Yankess hold a huge edge is at short stop with Jeter. So that should say something about Jeters value to the Yankees.
Mauers numbers are just outstanding though leading the league in on base and slugging playing primarily as a catcher. Plus a 600+ slugger on pace to strike out like 65 times is unreal. It's one of the best seasons ever for a MLB catcher, that it will be hard not to give him the MVP.
