In all honesty I barely notice the sound while playing games but during quiet scenes in movies I can hear it. Again, I'm not sure whether to chalk it up to ambient temperature or just poor hardware design. I can't for the life of me remember if it made this sound during the winter and colder months of summer.
Also, the backwards compatibilty is nice to have since I do have all the Ratchet and Clank and Jak and Daxter games which I would like to play again but it's not a deal breaker.
The bitstreaming would be nice to but it doesn't serve any advantage over the current way the PS3 decodes HD audio. From what I understand the only thing I will notice would be now the light on my receiver would display DTS-HD or Dolby TrueHD rather than what it currently displays (which I also forgot).

If you have the original 60GB PS3 with the PS2 chip in it, DO NOT DO THAT DEAL.
You can sell it on eBay for AT LEAST $300, probably more. Those are in high demand.
