It's the Alberta government that's forcing them to do that.
Everyone here has known about the announcement since March, but the Alberta Gov't is the one who gets to make the announcement for good press, so technically no one can say anything until they do.

No offence to anyone who goes to MRC but it is clearly a level below "real" university.
To be fair I have no knowledge of their University degrees so maybe they've stepped it up but in my experience and from the experiences of friends I've heard MRC is pretty lax compared to the U.

I'm not sure what idiot classes your "special" friends were taking... but all degree granting courses are held to a certain standard across the country. MRC/U had to get accredited just like UofC did - there is no difference in how "hard" a class is from one institution to the next.
