Yes it's it's the most important role, but this isn't the CFL, they can win the PAC10 with a servicable QB. There's many cases of freshman qb's who weren't the number one qb in the country who did very well in their first year. Colt McCoy won 10 games in his first year, and I remember them dumbing down the offence for him that year.

With a servicable QB yes, but again, that's not what we are talking about here.
And Dilfer was more than servicable, he could consistently complete the easy throws and occasionally hit a more difficult pass that kept the defense at least needing to respect the possibility. He wasn't good, but he could do the job, and this admittedly unrealistic hypo is about a QB who can't do that.
