^^^ Have to agree with much of what you said. I too am a big QT fan, and I don't just get off on the violence. I actually prefer the smart/funny talking scenes and intriguing dialogue. Samuel Jackson fighting with John Travolta over the context of foot rubs, mentioning the 'royale with cheese', Bill and his thoughts about Superman... Obviously there are a ton more, but these are some of the most obvious high notes in the dialogue in his movies.

But either I missed something here or this movie just didn't have the same interest as Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill Vol 2 (wasn't a big fan of the first half), Reservoir Dogs.

The first chapter was kinda what I was hoping for the whole movie. (expecting a few violent scenes as well like the second chapter, which was also very good) But as the movie wore on I felt like the two plot lines just didn't jive with each other, and that snappy dialogue and interesting observations I was hoping for, was mired in all these little plot twists that ultimately didn't even matter to the movie. Even the bar scene, which started off popping, just kinda wore on.

And I agree it had WAY more to do about Shoshanna, than the Basterds. I was hoping to see them in action. They were entertaining when they were. The movie was named for them, and heck, the commercials were about them. Having seen them round up a few more Nazi's would have been fun.

Not that the story around the Jewish French girl was bad, it was very good. Just that it was more suited to a traditional war movie, than a QT flick. And heck, if he wanted to do THAT story, then that's great too, I would have gone seen that as well. But ultimately, you had her plot line running alongside of the Basterds one, and neither even really mattered to each other.

And the styles, in both the stories, ended up quite different. Now, I've heard this is what he was going for, but then I have to ask, 'why'? It detracted from the movie for me at least.

Spoliers: Even if the Basterds weren't there, her plan to burn down the theatre would have succeeded. And vice versa, even if she weren't there, their plan to blow up the theatre would have succeeded.

But it was fun seeing a movie 'where the Jews kick ass'. Which is what they were going for in the interviews I read.

And I missed the Dr. Evil reference apparently. What was it?

Good movie, but not QT's best work in my opinion.
