I can just imagine this haunting him throughout his life: tough lesson for a prospective lawyer to learn about trusting in the intelligence of the masses. Ten years from now, he'll be selecting a jury and thinking to himself, "I wonder if this group of people would be smart enough to know what drinks LBJ liked..." And then slouching in his chair and scowling when they rule against him.
If I was in that situation, I'd ask myself first of all what I thought the answer was, and if the audience vote was the same, I'd go for it; otherwise, I'd walk.
