My one and only Uhaul story was my own fault for being so stupid but...
Rented just a cargo van to do some moving for 2 days.
Gassed up before returning it. Brought it back at 10 minutes to 5 on a Sunday. The doors were closed, because they said that their computer systems said 5pm and they had to close down (lazy). They said to slide the keys and the contract under the door and they'd call me with the final bill.
Big mistake.
It would've been cheaper to keep it an extra day. I got a call the next day, and sure enough, they charged me for half a tank of gas, at their exorbenant rates, because they claimed I hadn't filled the tank. Of course, by the time I called, the van I rented "had gone" so there was no way for me to rub their faces in the dashboard so they could get a good look at the gas guage that was full, but they claimed was nowhere near full.
I talked to a "manager" but gave up fairly soon after hearing the exact same words from that person.
Rule: Make sure you get them to look at the gas guage when you return it.....
