This is probably an example of why nation building is not as easy as it sounds on paper. It is very difficult to change the culture of a whole nation, and that is what we have come up against. I guess this will be seen as a minor issue on the grand scheme of things, the Americans are not going to pull out simply because the Afghans refuse to adhere to the principles of freedom and democracy. They are really there to exert their influence in that region so as to cripple islamic terrorist groups and further American economic interests... the well being of the Afghani people is secondary.

What more can we do? Taking away their autonomy, by forcing them to adopt and rescind laws, could probably work against our efforts there. Then again, we poured out the blood of our people in an effort that led to them being free from Taliban oppression... is it not insulting to the international community when they continue to treat women as second class citizens? Many Canadians supported the Afghani mission so that the lives of their citizens would improve, and their people would obtain freedom. But the people we helped in the war ended up making it illegal for women to leave their home or withhold sex. >.<
