Is this a completely new O/S or is just an upgrade for the current one? Is it like going from Windows Xp to Vista? or More of a service pack type thing?
How neccessary is it to get it? Will they continue to support the old O/S for a while?
Although $29 to upgrade is not a bad price at all, I must say.

Apple doesn't really do huge OS updates. They tend to alternate feature packed for consumer or for developers/backend work. This is the latter.
This release is not very splashy from an everyday user stand point. Almost everything new is really behind the scenes. It is a necessary upgrade in so much that Macintosh developers will make use of the new features right away and you may find that the minimum requirements for stuff you get is 10.6.
It's painless to upgrade and cheap so you might as well do it. It will also give you back like 4 gigs of HD space due to a bunch of streamlining they did.
