Can anyone explain to me how to become "Officially" married? Loaded question, I know. But heres a breakdown of what im really getting at.

My Fiance and I want to get married now and intend to have the ceremony and such with friends and family later. We also want to keep this on the down low from our families. (i know, seems dishonest, but we have our reasons).

Anyway, So far I have discovered that you can go to any registry and apply for a licence and then have a ceremony within 3 months of the licence date. Then you can submit a request for a marriage certificate?

Is there a step in between that I am missing, again aside from the obvious ceremony?

It seems to me that there is something missing, like swearing infront of a commisioner of oaths or something. And what about witnesses?

Any help would be most appreciated.
