There was a Simpson's episode similar to that when Homer and Bart join the Big Brother (or similar take off) program. Though the quote wasn't anywhere near it so that could be where the confusion is. I thought it was a sarcastic remark, but it may have been a mistake. Definitely heard dumber things here.
As for the story, great find. Very interesting. I know some whales are still hunted, not sure about belugas. I personally think hunting any type of whale should be illegal.
