I read somewhere that one of the reasons for the shortage of 3GS models, is they shipped 10,000 phones just to some of the Fortune 500 companies alone.

Edit: Found it.

The company said almost 20 percent of Fortune 500 companies have bought at least 10,000 iPhones, and it is currently unable to make enough iPhone 3GSs to meet a demand -- a problem Apple is working to address.

The confusing thing is this can be interpreted two different ways: 20% of the F500 combined to buy 10K units... or 20% of the F500 bought 10K each... The former is probably more likely, but they did sell 1 million phones in the first 3 days of sale... so...

I'm just not sure if 100 companies (20%) buying 10,000 units each makes a lot of sense... then again, 100 companies buying 100 units each doesn't seem like a whole lot either.
