I don't think that trying to save a famous basketball player who is having a heart attack is really proof that someone isn't racist. It's maybe proof that you aren't pure evil, but I don't think it goes much beyond that.
Boston is the second most segregated city in the United States, and from living there for the past 3 years, I can say that I've never seen so much elitism and racism anywhere else that I've lived. That's not proof that this cop was racist, but it helps explain why a black man might jump to that conclusion when they're being accused of breaking into their own home.
I've broken into my own apartment in Boston before as well, and people took me at my word when I explained what I was doing. It's not crazy to think that maybe race had something to do with why Gates didn't get that same benefit of the doubt that I did.
