I meant of course "back in 18 hours which is the deadline". It seems I'm back, and since I didn't really have time to think about this, I'll go with the first one that came to mind. I have trouble imagining a better choice. I'm not very good at admiring people, especially people I've only read about, but there was this one guy...
As the first overall pick, team
HeroQuest is extremely proud to pick in the
Political Leader category
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (1869 – 1948)
There are some things I value greatly, many of which are summed up in Gandhi, but there is a reason I put him in the political category. He was not only someone who was willing to fight for what he saw as good and right and who had put a great deal of thought into those matters; he could also turn ideas that are all too often ignored as lofty idealism into forces that could bring about great change.
There are many things Gandhi is remembered for, but I think two stand out the most.
First, he was essentially the inventor of non-violent political movements, leading the way for people like Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela, among many others.
Second, the guy was full of good quotes.
When asked what he thought of Western civilization, he famously replied, "I think it would be a good idea." I'm kind of still waiting for that joke to get old...
Some other good Gandhi-quotes, many of which hold as much weight today as when he said them.
- Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.
- The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world's problems.
- Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it is very important that you do it.
- What difference does it make to the dead, the orphans and the homeless, whether the mad destruction is wrought under the name of totalitarianism or the holy name of liberty or democracy?
