Just thought I'd fast forward the argument a couple replies.
Our room gets smoking hot at dinner time, because of the way the house is situated. And our room is over a un-insulated garage. Heat goes up in the summer, making the room that much hotter. Not to mention the road noise doesn't help my sleeping (opening windows). So, I'd argue that yeah, AC is important and necessary.
