We immediately made the following easy decisions

Jim Slater C: 2 year deal, 1.4 million per

Jonathan Ericsson D: 3 year deal, 1.75 million per

Mark Mitera D: 3 year deal, 1.75 million per

Corey Potter D: 3 year deal, 825,000 per

They were all pretty easy decisions. No reason to give Slater a 3rd year, he gets 2 and then I can give him another 3 year deal if he deserves it.

Potter will be a bargain if he can get a regular job on the Rangers 3rd pairing.

Ericsson and Mitera were no brainers to give 3 years, especially Ericsson. He had a great playoff even though the Wings lost.

Grossman and Mark Stuart are obviously going to be retained. Just a question of how many years they're going to get. Lock them up for 3 years and protect against possible future gains? Or sign them for 1 year for karma purposes (they're naturally have big seasons if I do that, right? Right?)

Then the next question is in goal. Niittymaki has to be signed for 5 million. 3 million for Boucher if I want him, and maybe I do knowing that Emery could blow up at any time. Then there's Michael Leighton whom I picked up in the contraction draft. He posted respectable numbers for Carolina (19 GP, .901 save percentage). If I give him a 1 year deal, he's a UFA next season. If I go longer, then maybe he's making too much money.
