I don't think it has anything to do with market share, I think the major difference is Apple bundles on their own computers and are the sole manufactures of anything with the mac os. Microsoft sells their os to multiple pc makers and was adding ie into the every pc sold, using the microsoft os, giving them a distinct advantage over other browser software.
I still disagree with the whole thing, as i think other options were still available and weren't being prohibited from being loaded onto any pc.
