We mostly watched Canadian news but if we wanted to know the pulse of the American middle class, we watched CBS with Cronkite. I also remember his take on Viet Nam changing as he started to understand the foolishness of this war. Watching the body bags being loaded on the planes as we ate our supper, probably helped change some opinions.
He was at the centre of the news during probably the most eventfull decade in North America's history, what with the Cold War,the nuclear power, Cuba, racial unrest, drugs, the pill, free love, space exploration, Viet Nam, hippies, anti-war movement, draft dodgers, women's lib, eastern philosophy, any more?
