Here's the way my friends and I play:
There are two team of two, each team sits in lawn chairs facing each other about 3 or 4 yards apart. Each team has a very well shook up beer sitting on the ground in between them.
The object of the game is to toss darts at the shook up beer of your opponent. Each team gets one toss by each team member, if you hit your opponents beer they have to shotgun the beer wherever the dart punctured the can. If you puncture the top of your opponents can than both of them have to shotgun a beer and you get the darts back. Games are to either 3 or 5.

2 more important rules:
1. Every player must touch the can once before it is in play. This ensures the can is extra shook up.
2. "Hey hey hey, Get your back back... and your legs aren't even crossed!"
Your back must be back and your legs must be crossed when throwing. This mostly just makes sure lots of taunting is in order.
